How to: Create a new PowerPoint default template.
Solution:
Open DEFAULT.PPT, modify the default template, and save the template.
1) Open the default PowerPoint template, 'DEFAULT.PPT':
a) Select the 'File' menu and select 'Open'. (The File Open dialog box appears.)
b) Select C:\MSOFFICE\POWERPNT\ from the 'Look in' drop-down list box.

c) Type DEFAULT.PPT in the 'File name' box.

d) Click 'Open'.
2) Make a backup copy of the original default template:
a) Select the 'File' menu and select 'Save As'. (The File Save dialog box appears.)
b) Select the directory in which to save the backup copy from the 'Save in' list box.
c) Type the desired name for the backup in the 'File name' box.
NOTE: Make sure to write down the backup name.
d) Click 'OK'.
3) Follow steps 1)a) through 1)d) to reopen the default PowerPoint template, 'DEFAULT.PPT'.
4) (Optional) Do one or both of the following, to modify the template:
a) Modify the settings for the text:
1] Select the desired area on the slide.
2] Select the 'Format' menu and select 'Font...'. (The Font dialog box appears.)
3] (Optional) Select the new font from the 'Font' list box.

4] (Optional) Select the new style from the 'Font Style' list box.

5] (Optional) Select the new font size from the 'Size' list box.

6] (Optional) Select or clear the desired effects from the 'Effects' group.

7] (Optional) Select the new font color from the 'Color' drop-down list box.

8] (Optional) Click 'Preview' to view the font changes without making them permanent.
9] Click 'OK'.
b) Modify the appearance of the slide background:
1] Select the 'Format' menu and select 'Custom Background...'. (The Custom Background dialog box appears.)
2] (Optional) Select the desired background color or style from the 'Fill Color Options' drop-down list box in the 'Background Fill' group.

3] (Optional) Select the 'Omit Background Graphics from Master' check box.

4] (Optional) Click 'Preview' to view the changes without making them permanent.
5] Do one of the following:
a] Click 'Apply to All', to apply the changes to all the slides in the presentation.
b] Click 'Apply', to apply the changes to only the current slide.
c] Click 'Cancel', to cancel the changes.
5) Select the 'File' menu and select 'Save'. (The changed DEFAULT.PPT overwrites the original default template.)
